Cracked Screen

Postby Equinox on Mon Jun 28, 2010 9:25 am

Hi there. I have a cracked screen and was wondering who I can contact to get it fixed. Does anyone know of any repair shops, or someone who would sell the screens. or something of that nature?

Thanks! :)

Sorry, I don't believe Haier actually had a repair service or spare parts program for their ibiza players, if it was a warranty related issue they simply would replace the unit. I don't know of anyone who services ibiza players, I think your best bet would be to buy another player, if you're like me and really like it, you might be able to find another ibiza player online cheap. If you want any help trying to find another one or anythng else please send me a private message or email.

In case you're unaware of it, the ibiza Rhaposody player has passed it's "End of Life" for developement and support.

I've only had my ibiza player for almost a year and a half and here is some background on the ibiza players I've found out:
While it was manufactured and marketed by Haier, it was actually designed and developed by a company that became Varia Mobile. The company that became Varia Mobile was actually a division of AOL, I don't remember what the the name was then but appearantly it was originally marketed as an "AOL Player". AOL had originally aquired the company known as Smart Screens Mobile, which became the division of AOL and appearantly in the fall out of the AOL/Time Warner merger fiasco, the company was spun off and became Varia Mobile and through a partnership with Rhaposody the player was re-marketed as the ibiza Rhapsody player, which integrated the Rhapsody Music Service in the player. Unfortunately the market demand for stand alone media players had erroded and in 2009 all further developement of the player was discontinued and Varia Mobile was aquired by Rhapsody by the end of the year and is appearantly involved in the developement of smart phone apps for the Rhapsody Music Service.

I personally think the reason product didn't sell well is because of a lack of (good) marketing by Haier. When I saw it in an electronics store in early 2009, I thought it was a new product but later I found out that it had already been out for several years. I cannot recall ever seeing any advertizements for it, ever.

I really like my ibiza player and wish they hadn't discontinued the line, I think there is still a market for people that don't necessarily want their portable media player incorporated in a cell phone although I understand Haier does or did manufacture some cell phones and could have incorporated the features of the ibiza into a cell phone, like what Apple did with the iPhone. I know there was a touch screen version of the ibiza in the planning or developement stages when the project was discontinued.

I like my ibiza so much that I've even posted a message on here about the possibility of continuing the development of ibiza line but the only response to it I got was one that said it most likely wasn't possible, due to proprietary hardware and software.
